The city really does look pretty, with it’s fresh blanket of snow. Since I’m working downtown now, and a block away from the Alberta Legislature, I decided to bring my camera to work and go for a stroll over lunch. It was too bad that it was still snowing, it really made the for some flat light. I would love to go back when the sun is shinning!

And snow it begins…

Up to 25 cm of snow landed on my fair city today. It was the kind of day that made those trying to get around go insane, while others made snowmen out of the situation.

Here are the first snow pictures of the season. If I know me, there will be more!

Pictures of snow

I’ve been going through a bunch of my older pictures, and it turns out that I take a lot of pictures of snow. Maybe it’s because I grew up with snow half the year, maybe I like the crispness of the snow, or maybe (since it is around for half the year) it’s just what I have to photograph!

Snow is tricky, though. White on white? A photographers nightmare! It can be hard to try and somehow work contrast in the shot, and it can be impossible to fix after the fact. That won’t stop me from trying! 🙂

Winter arrived!

It’s been a weird winter all over the planet. Whatever the reason (natural variation, El Nina, climate change), I think most people have been enjoying a mild winter. Here in Alberta, we’ve hardly had any snow. Which means it just doesn’t feel like winter for me. But, Mother Nature did deliver, just later than expected. And all at once.

A week ago Friday, Kirra was pushing her bike around the backyard. By that Sunday, this was the sight:
